How to Clean Battery Leakage

Choose a well ventilated area to clean the battery leakage in so that you aren't harmed by inhaling any fumes. A garage with the door open, a room with several open windows, or outside on a picnic table are all great places to clean up a battery leakage.

Step2

Put on your rubber gloves and protective eye wear before you begin to clean up the battery leakage. Do not skip this step. While it may not be the fashion statement you are looking to make, and the protective wear may seem a bit cumbersome, it is far more important to avoid harming yourself while cleaning the battery leakage than it is to look cool while doing it.

Step3

Determine whether the batteries that have leaked are alkaline or acid. It is important to know which batteries leaked in your device because an alkaline requires an acid to clean it up and an acid requires an alkaline to clean it up.

Step4

Use vinegar or lemon juice to clean up an alkaline battery leakage. You can use the toothbrush or cotton swabs to move the vinegar or lemon juice around until all of the leaked alkaline has been removed.

Step5

Use baking soda to clean up an acid battery leakage. You can use the toothbrush or cotton swabs to move the baking soda around, although the toothbrush is probably your best bet since you are working with a dry substance.

Step6

Do not introduce water into the mix, stick with the recommended materials for the appropriate type of battery leakage. When you are dealing with a battery acid or alkaline leak it is never a good idea to just start introducing random substances, even water, which may seem harmless but could be dangerous.

Step7

Use a toothbrush or cotton swap to help remove the battery leakage. A toothbrush is probably best for a leakage that is really stubborn, especially if it is an acid battery leakage that will be cleaned up with baking soda since there isn't any liquid to loosen the crud in the battery compartment. Cotton swabs are a great tool for cleaning up any lemon juice or vinegar that may be lingering around once the alkaline battery leakage has been cleaned up. You don't want to leave any moisture behind in any electronic device.

Step8

Stick to the same brand of batteries when you go to put batteries back in your electronic device so you can avoid a battery leakage that has both alkaline and battery acid.

Good Luck!

The acid in your stomach probably did a number on your circuit board. Your only hope would be to open it and thoroughly clean it with some rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush. Look closely and make sure the circuit traces are all still good, not corroded, open or nothing is shorting anything together.

Let it thoroughly dry then try plugging it in. If the USB contacts are corroded you can try a small fine wire brush to clean them up.

I accidentally ran a flash drive through the washing machine and it worked perfectly afterwards so there is a slight possibility you might still get your data.

If the drive is really chewed up but the chips still look good, the only other thing to try would be to buy an identical drive, remove the new chips and install your old chips onto where the new ones were.

You would have to be knowledgeable about removing surface mounted components with flux and a heat gun to do this though. I wouldn't try it with a soldering iron unless you were really comfortable with it and had a good iron.

How to remove the anodizing on very small copper wires?

Jul 7, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: Others

Hi all, I have a new electric toothbrush with a bad wire; I can solder the copper, but the red coating on it will not solder nor conduct electricity. Is there any way to effectively remove the coating? The wire is so small… Thanx!

Nothing other than scraping it off with a sharp blade of some sort – but it's not likely to be successful because that's such a tiny wire. Don't be a cheapskate – replace the bloody toothbrush. If it's all that new, it should be under warranty and a replacement should be just a matter of taking it and your sales slip back where you got it.

Oh – you're one of those dummies who tosses sales slips, eh? Sorry, you're S.O.L. Gotta pay for the new one, then…

What type of battery do you recommend if I can't use such batteries?

Yes. They're much better for the environment.

Use NiMH batteries. They store a lot of energy (double the regular alkaline). They are expensive to buy at first, but they last a long long time.

The rating on the battery (eg. 2500mAh) is the amount of energy the battery stores. The higher the number, the longer it will last. Your toothbrush will drain only the current it requires.

How does an electric toothbrush charge?

Jul 7, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: Others

I've always wonderened this, but how does an electic toothbrush charge? I mean when you look at it, its just plastic, how does electricity get in there? Also, why does it still charge even when its wet, why doesn't it short circuit, and why don't other electronics charge like this?

Thas was asked a long time ago.

There is a small coil of wire in the base of the toothbrush & one in the base of the charger.

A low voltage AC flows in the charger, and this induces a voltage in the coil in the toothbrush, producing an AC voltage in it whcih is rectified to give DC & charge the toothbrush.

It acts as a small transformer.
